Day 1 (Saturday)
Arrival in Palermo You are greeted at Palermo airport and transferred
to your hotel. Late in the afternoon after an orientation talk by your tour director,
enjoy a welcome dinner at your hotel. (Dinner included)
Day 2 (Sunday) Monreale and Valle dello Jato winery After breakfast,
your local guide will show you where the Arab-Norman art and architecture reached
the pinnacle of its glory with the Monreale Duomo, built in 1174
by William II. Then across the country side we soon arrive in the Valle dello
Jato, an important sicilian site where strong wines and rich perfume have been
born, with a complex structure and long persistent finish. The white wines have
powerful citrus fruit and floral notes on the nose typical of the grapes of Catarratto,
Grillo, Viognier and Chardonnay. The red wines are elegant and are full of flavours
of savoury red berry fruit which are typical of Nero dAvola, Merlot and
Syrah. On arrival visit to the winery and tast local wines. Lunch at winery. Then
continue to Custonaci-Trapani side. Light-dinner at hotel. (Breakfast,
lunch and dinner included) Day
3 (Monday) Erice - Olive oil press and cooking experience The
mediaeval town of Erice was settled by the Elymians and was an important
religious site associated with goddesses of fertility. Wander through its' ancient
streets and visit some of the famous home-made pastry-shops, world-famous for
marzipan candies and other delicacies like almond and pistachio pastries.
Then, on to an olive oil press and farmhouse. The Chef will teach us how to prepare
some of the most representative recipes of the culinary tradition of this area
such as "Pasta alla Trapanese & Involtini alla Siciliana". You will
prepare the dishes for the light-lunch. (Breakfast and lunch included) Day
4 (Tuesday) Salt road, Marsala and Menfi winery Today'we'll
drive along the Salt road with its windmills and saltpans where the ancient traditon
of harvesting salt from the sea is still alive. Upon arriva in Marsala, we visit
a local winerys cellar and taste Sicilian wines, Then, continue to Menfi
to reach a Sicilian Baglio-Winery, situated on a promontory overlooking the Vallone,
through which runs the S. Vincenzo river. The Baglio is surrounded by 12 hills
dotted with vineyards, olive groves, citrus orchards, brooms and daisies, carobs
and a valuable variety of prickly pears from Santa Margherita del Belice. Light-lunch
and departure to Agrigento whose history dates back to 580 BC. Tonight we will
enjoy a panoramic tour of the Valley of the Temples. (Breakfast
and lunch included) Day
5 (Wednesday) SantAngelo Muxaro & Sicilian Pane Cunsatu and Country
Pizza This morning we will depart to the country town of Sant’Angelo
Muxaro. Obviously, one who has never been here can’t but be surprised
and pleasantly awed when, from the provincial road that from Agrigento meanders
into the inland along curves, twists and bends between mountains and hills, will
find himself almost immediately in front of a unique and spectacular view. On
a lonely hill, in the centre of the valley of the river Platani and surrounded
by a wild and harsh vegetation, a handful of houses lie on the sheer slope of
the hill itself… this is the small town of Sant’Angelo Muxaro. On
arrival meet Donna Concetta. She will teach us Pizza and Bread preparation. Simple
light-lunch to taste Sicilian Pizza and Pane Cunsatu, a typical home-make bread
with olive oil, pecorino cheese. In the afternoon brief visit to the little city
centre and local shops to admire the seniors men who build the traditional straw-fruit-basket.
Drive back to Agrigento. (Breakfast and lunch included)
Day 6
(Thursday) Piazza Armerina and Caltagirone Departure to Piazza Armerina,
a spectacularly sited town lying inland in central Sicily. Here, we visit the
Roman Villa of Casale. The mosaics discovered here are celebrated among scholars
of antiquity. In the afternoon, we visit the baroque town of Caltagirone known
as "the city of ceramics". Ceramics have been produced here for over
1000 years. Time at leisure for shopping. Later departure to Ragusa, the heart
of sicilian baroque. Tonight dinner at local trattoria to taste the local Ravioli
alla Ragusana. (Breakfast
and dinner included) Day
7 (Friday): Ragusa Ibla, Modica and Noto After a walk
in the historical town of Ragusa Ibla with its Baroque stunning palaces
and churches, we depart to Modica. The city, situated in the Iblean mountains,
along with Val di Noto and Ragusa, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The economy
of the area is based on the prduction of dairy cheese, olives, carobs, legumes,
cereals. Don't miss the famous Chocolate of Modica made on an Aztec recipe!. Join
fer a chocolate making demonstration and tasting. Light-Lunch at local restaurant.
In the afternoon we will continue to the Noto, famous for its fine honey
coloured buildings of the early eighteenth century, considered among the main
masterpieces of Sicilian baroque architecture. Time at leisure. Later departure
to Catania. (Breakfast and lunch included)
Day
8 (Saturday): Taormina and Mount Etna winery Tansfer to Taormina. Time
at leisure to explore the town or for shopping. In teh afternoon, we drive to
Mt Etna . The lava and volcano minerals give a unique taste to the wine in this
area . On arrival transfer to a local winery: this estate also produces a local
preserve and a great olive-oil with lemon/garlic/pepper. Enjoy a delicious Farewell
Cocktail & Sicilian Snackers. Later back to Catania.

Day 9 (Sunday): Catania departure Transfer to Catania airport for departure.
